What Is a Hardwire Kit For Dashcam?

Using the fuse box to power the dash cam requires a hardwire kit, which converts the car’s 12V output to 5V, suitable for the dash cam. These kits are sold separately and typically cost a few dozen yuan. Installation is more technical and should be done by a professional at a service center.

Two Wiring Methods for Fuse Box Installation:
There are two types of fuses in the fuse box:
·VCC (also called constant power fuse) – Still has power after the engine is turned off.
·ACC (also called ignition-switched fuse) – Loses power when the engine is off.

1. For Dash Cams Without Parking Monitoring:
Connect both the red and yellow wires to ACC.
Connect the black wire to ground (GND).
(If there's no yellow wire, just connect the red wire to ACC.)

2. For Dash Cams With Parking Monitoring:
Connect the red wire to ACC.
Connect the yellow wire to VCC.
Connect the black wire to ground (GND).
(If there's no yellow wire, connect the red wire to VCC.)

In other words, unless connected to a VCC fuse, the dash cam will generally not receive power after the car is turned off.
