Here is how to isolate and resolve the issue.
1. Unstable Power Delivery or Voltage Drops
Dash cams require a continuous, uninterrupted power supply to record video frames reliably. Drops in voltage force the internal processor to reset.
- Check the Hardwire Kit / Cigarette Lighter Adapter: Loose connections, worn-out 12V adapters, or frayed micro-USB/Type-C cables cause power flickers.
- Inspect Car Battery & Voltage Regulators: Sudden reboots during ignition or heavy electrical load (e.g., engine start-stop cycles) indicate voltage drops.
- Match Truck & Commercial Voltage (24V to 12V): Heavy-duty trucks run on 24V electrical systems. Connecting a 12V camera without a step-down converter or a wide-voltage (9V–36V) commercial power module will trigger continuous reboots or burn out the device.
2. SD Card Degradation and Write Bottlenecks
When a dash cam encounters corrupt sectors or write delays, the operating system hangs and auto-restarts to clear the buffer.
- Card Wear: Standard SD cards are not designed for continuous overwrite cycles and degrade rapidly. Use high-endurance, Class 10 / U3 / V30 cards (such as SanDisk High Endurance or Samsung PRO Endurance).
- Format & Test: Perform a full FAT32/exFAT format via PC (or in-camera) rather than a quick format. If errors persist, test the camera with a fresh, empty card.
3. Thermal Throttling & Battery Failures
High cabin temperatures trigger built-in thermal protection to prevent processor damage.
- Lithium Battery Swelling: Traditional lithium-battery cameras degrade quickly under windscreen heat. As the battery fails to hold a stable charge buffer, voltage sags cause reboot loops.
- Solution: Switch to cameras using supercapacitors, which withstand extreme ambient heat (up to 70°C/158°F) and offer far superior long-term stability.
4. Firmware Bugs or Corrupt Config Files
Corrupted system settings or incomplete over-the-air (OTA) updates can throw the camera into a boot loop upon startup.
- Reflash the official firmware onto the root directory of a clean SD card.
- Perform a hard factory reset using the physical reset pinhole.
5. Hardware & Circuit Defects
If power, storage, and firmware check out, the issue points to internal hardware failure:
- Degraded power management IC (PMIC) on the mainboard.
- Cold solder joints affected by vehicle vibration.
- Faulty image sensor or main processor thermal paste failure.
